JS01 - Types of Jewellery

Most of us love jewellery. Be it a simple pair of stud earrings or a chunky attention grabbing piece, we all own a piece of jewelry.
We will look at different types of jewelry so that the next time you go looking for something you like, you will know it's name. Not calling it 'that thing worn here(pointing to a body part)'.

 Anklet
This is worn around the ankle. It is mostly a basic strand but you can go all chunky if you want it to be the statement piece.


Band
This is a ring that you wear on you finger. eg. A wedding ring. 

Bangle
A stiff circular bracelet.

Bracelet
 A piece of jewellery that you wear around your wrist.

Brooch
A piece of jewellery with a pin on the back that you fasten to your clothes.Brooch is British. American name is pin.

Cameo
A piece of jewellery with a raised  design, usually in the shape of a woman's head, on a background of a different color.



Choker
A piece of jewellery or cloth that fits tightly around the neck and is worn by some women as decoration.


Circlet
 A circle of gold, silver or jewels worn on the head as decoration.


Clip
A piece of jewellery with two parts that press tightly together so you can fix it to your clothes.


 Costume Jewellery
 This is jewellery that is not expensive but looks valuable.

 Diadem
This is a metal circle with jewels on it.


Diamante'
This is jewellery decorated with pieces of glass that looks like diamonds.


 Earring
This is a piece of jewellery that you wear on your ear.

Engagement Ring
This is a ring that a man gives to a woman when they get engaged.


Locket
This is a piece of jewellery that consists  of a very small case that you wear around your neck on a chain. You can keep a photograph of someone you love inside a locket.


Medallion
A piece of metal that is worn around the neck on a chain as jewellery.

 

Necklace
A piece of jewellery that hangs around your neck.

 


Nose Ring
A piece of jewellery that you wear through your nose  .

Pendant
A piece of jewellery that hangs from a chain on your neck.

Ring
A piece of jewellery in form of a circle that you wear on your finger.

Signet Ring
A ring with a special design that can be used as a signet.

Sleeper
A piece of jewellery that you wear in your ear to prevent the hole from closing.

Stickpin/Tiepin/TieTack
A decorated pin worn to keep a tie in place or worn as jewellery.

Stud
A small piece f jewellery on a short metal post that is worn through a part of your body.

Tiara
A piece of jewellery that a woman wears on top of her head on formal occasions. It looks like a small crown.

Wedding Band/Wedding Ring
A piece of jewellery which people in most countries wear on their left hand to show that they are married.
